Alex Duran is a Principal and Coal Business Manager with PSM, joining the firm in 1996. Mr Duran graduated from the University of Melbourne in 1982 with a Bachelor of Mining Engineering, with Honours. Mr Duran completed a Master of Science, Engineering, from the University of Melbourne in 1986. Mr Duran subsequently worked with Coffey Partners as a Senior geotechnical engineer for seven years. Mr Duran was appointed as the Senior Open Pit Geotechnical Engineer at the Porgera Gold Mine (PNG) in 1993, a technically challenging project with a pit depth to 500m depth, 3000mm annual rainfall, seismic activity, interaction with underground workings and 300m high slopes in mudstones.

Mr Duran has worked on over 200 mining projects ranging from pre-feasibility studies, small scale operating mines and large scale open cuts. In addition to all the states and mainland territories of Australia, Mr Duran worked extensively overseas. Major projects have been located in India, Papua New Guinea, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mexico, Colombia and New Zealand.
